Bill at Historic Tavern

Bill Huber, our fiddle player, and more importantly, our friend, passed away on April 17, 1999....

Bill was 53 years old...way too young to leave us all. Fans of bluegrass and old time music in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area have known Bill's playing for many years. We were blessed to have his talents play an integral role in the Birdies for the past 10 years, Bill Huber but he was also a founding member of the Jugtown Mountain String Band, a member of the Buffalo Hollow Bluegrass Band, the Snapperhead Cajun and Zydeco Band and the Six Mile Run Band.

He also was a furniture maker and owned Red Wing Restorations in West Portal, NJ and had been a Plainfield firefighter.

Bill was president of the Hunterdon County Folk Exchange, and a co-organizer of Cat’n Fiddle Coffee House at Echo Hill Park in Stanton Station and the HFE Annual Fiddle contest. He also was a member of the Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association of New Jersey and the Appalachian Fiddle and Bluegrass Association of Wind Gap.

He left behind Carol, Jason, Erica, his Mom, and thousands of other people he's played for over the years.

We'll all miss him very much.
